The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has announced the official financial value of Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1447 AH, corresponding to 2026.
According to a statement from the ministry on Wednesday, the value of Zakat al-Fitr has been set at 170 dinars, which represents the average price of a “sa’a” (2 kg) of the staple food consumed by Algerians.
The statement explained that mosque imams and Zakat committees will handle the collection in coordination with relevant authorities, starting from the middle of the month of Ramadan. The funds will be distributed exclusively to registered beneficiaries one or two days before Eid al-Fitr.
The ministry confirmed that Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory for every Muslim, whether young or old, rich or poor, provided they possess more than their daily sustenance. The individual responsible must pay it for themselves and for all those they are legally required to support.
The statement also noted that paying the Zakat in cash is consistent with the interpretations of several prominent companions and jurists, as it serves the best interests of the poor in meeting their basic needs.
