Economic activity has seen a significant increase in women’s participation in recent years, with the number of women registered in the commercial register rising by 37 percent compared to the end of 2019. This reflects a notable growth in female entrepreneurship.
According to statistics from the National Center of the Commercial Register, the number of female traders reached 218,486 in the first week of March, compared to 159,807 on December 31, 2019.
This figure is distributed between 194,443 registered as natural persons and 24,043 as legal entities (company managers). The center noted that these figures do not include liberal professions, agricultural activities, or traditional crafts, as they are subject to specific legislative and regulatory provisions.
Regarding the activities most practiced by female traders in the natural person category, the report indicates that retail food trade leads the list at 17.06 percent of all activities, followed by the retail trade of clothing, jewelry, and cosmetics at 10.60 percent.
Accommodation and catering services rank third at 7.04 percent, while the retail trade of sports and leisure equipment, office supplies, and artistic activities represents 6.18 percent.
Transport and related services account for 6.03 percent, while the retail trade of home furnishings and equipment represents 4.22 percent of the total activities practiced by women.
For women registered as legal entities (company managers), activities related to production, manufacturing, or transformation in the fields of construction materials, public works, and industrial thermal equipment top the list at 8.49 percent.
This is followed by consulting and study offices at 8.04 percent, cultural and leisure activities including media and advertising at 5.71 percent, transport services at 4.87 percent, and the rental of professional or household equipment at 3.43 percent. Additionally, the installation and repair of industrial and household equipment accounts for 2.97 percent.
