The Spanish newspaper “El País” reported on Wednesday that Madrid has dismissed its ambassador in Tel Aviv and reduced its diplomatic representation in the Israeli entity, citing the official gazette.
The newspaper explained that the decision, taken during the last cabinet meeting, means that Spain has officially withdrawn the head of its diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv and lowered its representation level to a chargé d’affaires, in a move similar to what Israel is doing at its embassy in Madrid.
Relations between the two parties have reached a high level of tension due to Spain’s position rejecting the war of genocide in Gaza, and against this backdrop, Madrid has imposed sanctions on the Israeli occupation.
