The technical constitutional amendment project covers 13 articles, introducing technical changes expected to be ratified by both chambers of Parliament in a session scheduled for next Wednesday at the Palace of Nations.
The amendments address technical aspects of the 2020 Constitution and include minor additions regarding the requirement to provide proof of educational level for presidential candidates. Additionally, the amendments grant the President of the Republic the authority to call for early local elections.
Among the significant technical changes is the adoption of population size to determine the number of seats for each province in the Council of the Nation, assigning either one or two seats as proposed in the amended Article 121.
The project also includes an amendment to Article 134 of the Constitution, extending the term of the Council of the Nation’s presidency to six years instead of three.
Furthermore, the amendment to Article 138 stipulates that the opening of the regular parliamentary session will take place on any day in September, rather than specifically on the second day of the month.
