Attempts to Smuggle Nearly 13 Quintals of Drugs Across Morocco Foiled

The Ministry of National Defense revealed on Wednesday the operational results of the People’s National Army for the period from March 18 to 24, 2026. Within the framework of combating organized crime, three armed smugglers of foreign nationality were eliminated, and two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns and various items were seized.

Thirty-three drug traffickers were arrested, and attempts to smuggle 12 quintals and 98 kilograms of treated hashish across the borders with Morocco were foiled. Additionally, 112 kilograms of cocaine and 928,895 hallucinogenic tablets were seized.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and Djanet, 82 individuals were detained, and 24 vehicles, 65 electric generators, and 31 jackhammers were seized, along with quantities of raw gold ore and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

Furthermore, 12 other individuals were arrested, and a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, a Simonov semi-automatic rifle, 9,890 liters of fuel, and 31 tons of food items intended for smuggling and speculation were seized during separate operations.

In another context, the Coast Guard foiled illegal migration attempts along the national coast and rescued 83 people who were aboard traditional boats. Meanwhile, 227 illegal migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the national territory.
