President Tebboune: Algeria is committed to its obligations as a strategic partner for Italy

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations as a strategic and reliable partner for Italy and Europe in the energy sector, in light of challenges related to supply security and the stability of international oil and gas markets.

In a joint media statement following his reception of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday, the President reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to deepening and expanding cooperation in modern technologies, startups, training, scientific research, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovative agriculture, and food security.

Within the framework of the “Mattei Plan” for Africa, President Tebboune praised the accelerated pace of implementing two joint projects under this plan: the grain and legume production project in Timimoun province and the establishment of the Algerian-Italian “Enrico Mattei” Center of Excellence for training, research, and innovation in the agricultural field with an African dimension.

President Tebboune added: “On this occasion, we agreed to accelerate the procedures for establishing the Algerian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, which will enable economic operators to exploit the potential and opportunities in both countries. We also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in cultural, scientific, and humanitarian fields to help build bridges of communication and closeness between the Algerian and Italian peoples.”

He continued: “We also welcomed the efforts made by Algeria and Italy to strengthen coordination in combating illegal migration, human trafficking, terrorism, cross-border crime, and various security issues in the Mediterranean region.”
