Albares: Algeria is a Strategic Partner for Madrid

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain, José Manuel Albares, confirmed on Thursday that Algeria is a strategic partner, highlighting that it is a stable, reliable, and consistent supplier of natural gas to his country, having been Spain’s top supplier for three years.

In a media statement following his meeting with President Tebboune, Albares stated that Madrid shares human relations and common interests with Algeria, including the future and stability of the Mediterranean and Africa.

The spokesperson pointed to what he described as a “massive increase” in Spanish exports to Algeria over the past two years, noting that they tripled last year compared to 2024. He added that trade between the two countries is witnessing continuous growth, with the volume of trade exchange reaching approximately 8.5 billion euros in 2025.

In the current geopolitical context, the head of Spanish diplomacy emphasized that Madrid and Algeria share common values and principles, such as the peaceful resolution of international conflicts and the rejection of wars.
