In a recent public session chaired by the President of the Council, Salah Goujil, to present and discuss a law outlining disaster prevention, intervention, and risk reduction within the framework of sustainable development, Ibrahim Murad, the Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Urban Planning, provided insights into the capabilities aimed at combating wildfires.

Murad announced the acquisition of a large-sized aircraft among four orders and plans for two more of the same type, along with another project for smaller aircraft with a capacity of 6,000 liters, proving their effectiveness in forest firefighting operations.

Regarding preventative measures for forest fires, Murad stated that certain regions have implemented measures since January to prevent and respond to wildfires. Operational measures include support from mobile units from neighboring provinces, road clearing, the creation of water basins, and airstrips for firefighting helicopters and planes.

Addressing the update of rescue organization plans and allocated resources, Murad emphasized the significant improvement in disaster readiness and response over the past three years. A total of 1,528 municipal rescue plans and 58 provincial ones have been prepared, each outlining the material and human resources to be mobilized when activated.

Previously, these plans were updated every 5 years for provincial plans and every 2 years for municipal ones. However, under the President’s directive, the review period has been shortened to 6 months. Furthermore, directives have been issued to incorporate modern technologies in their management and updates.
