Gitex: Preparing to Launch Partnerships with International Brands

The Textile and Leather Holding Company (Gitex) plans to sign contracts with international brands in the local clothing and footwear industry to strengthen the public group’s position and promote national products at both regional and international levels.

CEO Toufik Berkani stated that Gitex has initiated exploration and negotiations with major brands and international operators in the textile, clothing, and leather sectors. The goal is to conclude manufacturing contracts for third parties that meet international standards, enabling national production units to integrate into global value chains.

This move aligns with the public authorities’ efforts to develop the textile sector through major industrial partnerships, such as the agreement signed years ago between Gitex and Tayal. The objective is to build an integrated industrial system based on qualified national expertise, enhance the competitiveness of local products, and promote the “Made in Algeria” label.

Berkani revealed a project currently under study to establish a unit for producing polyester synthetic fibers and yarns with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons. This project aims to enhance industrial integration and reduce import dependency, alongside other projects for producing non-woven fabrics for the medical sector, sponge fabrics, and the expansion of footwear and leather production units.

Regarding the commercial performance of the group, which employs approximately 8,000 workers, a significant leap in turnover was recorded, with an increase of over 60% last year compared to 2021. A further 20% increase was noted between 2024 and 2025, confirming the group’s sustainable growth trajectory.

Gitex is also working to support digital transformation and modernize management systems across its units and subsidiaries by integrating modern technologies, particularly digitalization and artificial intelligence, into various stages of production and management.

Furthermore, Gitex has launched an investment program aimed at opening seven new factories across the country, creating more than 1,000 new jobs, particularly in the southern regions.

In this context, infrastructure has been allocated in the province of Adrar to establish a new sewing unit. The CEO also announced the organization of the second edition of a fashion show next June to showcase the capabilities of the national industry and launch a new brand for the consumer market.
