The Textile and Leather Holding Company (Gitex) intends to conclude contracts with international brands in the local clothing and footwear industry to strengthen the public group’s position and promote national products at regional and international levels.
Gitex has initiated exploration and negotiation processes with major international brands and operators in the textile, clothing, and leather sectors to sign manufacturing contracts for third parties that meet international standards. This step aims to enable national production units to integrate into global value chains.
This move aligns with the public authorities’ efforts to develop the textile branch through major industrial partnerships, similar to the agreement signed years ago between Gitex and Tayal. The objective is to build an integrated industrial system based on qualified national competencies to achieve a qualitative shift, increase the competitiveness of local products, and highlight the “Made in Algeria” brand.
A project is currently under study to establish a production unit for polyester synthetic fibers and yarns with a capacity of 20,000 tons per year. This facility is expected to enhance industrial integration and reduce import dependency. Other projects include the production of non-woven fabrics for the medical sector, sponge fabrics, and the expansion of footwear and leather product units.
Regarding the commercial results of the group, which employs approximately 8,000 workers, a “qualitative leap” was recorded in turnover, which increased by more than 60 percent last year compared to 2021. An additional 20 percent increase was recorded between 2024 and 2025, confirming the group’s sustainable upward trajectory.
Furthermore, Gitex is working to support digital transformation and modernize management systems across its units and subsidiaries by integrating modern technologies, particularly digitalization and artificial intelligence, into various stages of production and management.
Gitex has also launched an investment program aimed at opening seven new factories nationwide and creating more than 1,000 new jobs, particularly in the southern regions. In this regard, infrastructure has been allocated in the province of Adrar to establish a new sewing unit. Additionally, the second edition of a fashion show is scheduled for next June to showcase the capabilities of the national industry and launch a new brand for the consumer market.
