The members of the General Assembly of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee unanimously approved the moral and financial reports for the year 2025 during an ordinary session held on Saturday in Algiers. The members also approved the activity plan and the estimated budget for the year 2026.
Out of 94 members, including 24 Olympic federations, 62 members representing 18 Olympic federations attended the General Assembly held at the El Djazaïr Hotel, under the supervision of the head of the Olympic body, Abderrahmane Hammad.
In his speech, Hammad highlighted the body’s achievements during 2025, both in terms of managing human and material resources and the results achieved by Algerian athletes in various continental and international competitions. He specifically noted the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, and the African School Games in Annaba.
After congratulating the Algerian athletes who qualified for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games scheduled for Dakar, Senegal, Hammad emphasized that the committee will continue to support athletes and federations by addressing their concerns and raising the national flag, particularly through the implementation of a new mechanism for preparation incentives.
In this context, he explained that a grant scale has been adopted for young athletes participating in continental and international competitions, especially the Dakar 2026 Games. This is in addition to grants provided by the International Olympic Committee and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, with the aim of improving the preparation of elite athletes who are also set to compete in the 2026 Mediterranean Games, scheduled to take place from August 21 to September 3 in Taranto, Italy.
Among the projects initiated by the committee, the president pointed to comprehensive digital transformation, improved administrative management, and enhanced communication through social media networks, particularly Facebook, to monitor athletes’ activities.
The General Assembly proceedings were attended by several sports figures, including the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Mustapha Berraf.
