Algeria’s Civil Protection Achieves Elite UN Reclassification Under INSARAG Standards

Algeria’s Civil Protection directorate has secured the international reclassification of its Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team (HUSAR ALG01) under the rigorous standards of the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

Following an intensive evaluation conducted by accredited experts from 12 nations between April 14–17, 2026, the 86-member Algerian HUSAR team demonstrated exceptional professionalism across all operational domains — including command, search and rescue, medical support, and logistics.

Algeria first earned INSARAG certification in 2017. This reclassification confirms the team’s sustained capacity to operate autonomously for up to ten days in disaster zones, placing it among just 60 elite heavy-class teams worldwide.

This landmark achievement, exclusively confirmed to dzwatch, underscores Algeria’s growing role as a key actor in international humanitarian disaster response.
