President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting that addressed several critical national development files.
President Tebboune ordered the immediate launch of the southern railway project linking Algiers–Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Menia–In Salah–Tamanrasset, set for commissioning by end of 2028, describing it as “the new bet of the century.”
On mining, the President directed Algeria to achieve phosphate exports by March 2027, coinciding with completion of the mining quay at Annaba Port, while strengthening the Algerian-Chinese partnership in port construction.
The new Water Minister was tasked with developing a long-term water security plan, while the Energy sector was directed to study creating a dedicated State Secretariat for Renewable Energies.
The Council also praised growing youth participation in the economy and called for expanding opportunities for young Algerians, including women, ahead of upcoming legislative elections.
