Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued a directive during a Cabinet meeting to begin exporting phosphate from the Bilad El-Hadba mine by March 2027 at the latest, identifying it as the mining sector’s top economic priority.
Tebboune tasked the newly appointed Minister of Mines with ensuring Algeria reaches full phosphate export capacity in line with the completion of the mining quay at the expanded Annaba Port, scheduled for March 2027.
The President stressed that Algeria’s economic roadmap aims to transform the mining sector into a key wealth-generating engine, decisively breaking dependence on hydrocarbons.
Tebboune also ordered the immediate launch of raw material processing units at Bilad El-Hadba, alongside active mine operations, and directed the urgent construction of urea and ammonia storage facilities meeting international technical standards.
He further called for strengthening the Algerian-Chinese partnership in port construction and dredging to finalize the mining quay. Additionally, the President urged the government to prioritize the southern railway line linking Algiers to Tamanrasset, expected operational by end of 2028.
