On Tuesday, Energy and Mines Minister Mohamed Arkab received Fuad Oktay, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, who is on an official visit to Algeria. A statement from the Ministry of Energy highlighted that the meeting reviewed the excellent state of cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the energy and mining sectors, as well as prospects for enhancing them. The discussion also covered significant achievements and current and future projects, especially since the convening of the eleventh Algerian-Turkish Joint Committee and the Energy and Mines Business Forum in 2021 in Algiers.

The Minister of Energy and Mines and the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Turkey valued the significant partnership between sector companies such as Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, Sonarem, and Turkish companies Botas, Ronesans, Tosyali, and Ozmert, especially in gas marketing, petrochemicals, and the exploitation and processing of iron ore at the Gara Djebilet and Ouenza mines.

Both parties praised the investment and partnership opportunities and potentials between institutions in the energy sector in general and in the hydrocarbons field in Algeria and abroad, particularly at the African level. They also discussed other cooperation aspects related to the exchange of expertise and investment and partnership in the mining sector, touching on geological research, exploration, exploitation, and the production of mineral substances in Algeria, especially after the issuance of the new investment law in Algeria, which includes many facilities and incentives for foreign operators.

On this occasion, Fuad Oktay expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and their companies, reaffirming the Turkish side’s commitment to enhance its presence in Algeria. This commitment is evidenced by the interest shown by Turkish companies in creating investment projects and mutually beneficial partnerships with Algerian companies, with a focus on transferring expertise and training in various fields, particularly in the energy and mining sectors.
