Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yassine Walid, has confirmed that the ‘Bladna Algerie’ project stands as Africa’s largest milk production initiative, representing a massive investment of $3.5 billion spanning 117,000 hectares in Adrar.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch during the signing of the project’s second package of contracts, the minister stated the project aims to cover 50% of Algeria’s milk needs, producing 200,000 tons of milk powder while mobilizing 270,000 dairy cows.
The minister emphasized the project’s transformative scope, noting it will create 5,000 jobs and direct 95,000 cattle toward Algeria’s red meat market.
The project will also require the installation of 1,400 pivot irrigation systems, with 700 units deployed in the first phase alone, reinforcing Algeria’s determination to achieve food sovereignty and lead agricultural development across the African continent.
