Algeria’s Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE) has unanimously approved a comprehensive clarification framework covering all candidacy cases submitted by those wishing to run in the upcoming National People’s Assembly elections scheduled for July 2, 2026.
In an exclusive statement to dzwatch, the authority confirmed that following a thorough review of all cases related to candidates’ political affiliations and their current electoral mandates, the council reached a unanimous decision to clarify the submitted candidacy cases.
According to the framework, any candidate currently sponsored by a political party and holding an active electoral mandate may re-run under the same party. Candidates may also switch to another political party or run on a free list if their elected status has been revoked.
Furthermore, independent candidates currently serving an active electoral mandate are equally eligible to run under a different political party or on a free list should their elected status be withdrawn ahead of the July 2 legislative vote.
