US AFRICOM Commander Arrives in Algeria for High-Level Official Visit

General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), arrived in Algeria Monday for an official visit, marking a significant moment in growing bilateral military and diplomatic ties.

General Langley began his visit by paying tribute at the Memorial of the Martyr, where he laid a wreath of flowers — a gesture dzwatch learned was intended as a mark of deep respect for Algeria’s history and the sacrifices of its people.

AFRICOM, established in 2007 and headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, is the US Defense Department’s unified military command responsible for coordinating American military operations across Africa, supporting and training African forces, and combating terrorism.

The visit coincides with a separate official trip to Algeria by US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, reflecting an intensified momentum in high-level American engagement with Algiers across both military and diplomatic channels.
