Tebboune: Pope Ended Colonial Myth About Algeria, Saudi Arabia Is OPEC’s Cornerstone

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune held his periodic press meeting with national media representatives, broadcast Saturday evening at 9 PM on national television and radio channels.

In exclusive statements, President Tebboune confirmed that Pope Leo XIV delivered no private messages to him, as the Pontiff is fully aware of Algeria’s reality. He added: “His Holiness the Pope put an end to the former colonizer’s myth that it created Algeria — the Pope publicly declared that Algeria is historically rooted back to Saint Augustine and beyond.”

On women’s political participation, Tebboune stressed the importance of women entering the political arena — not because of gender, but because of their ideas — while firmly prohibiting any administrative interference in elections.

Regarding Mali, the President told dzwatch: “I speak from the heart because we love this country.”

On the UAE’s withdrawal from OPEC and OPEC+, Tebboune dismissed its significance, affirming that Saudi Arabia remains a fundamental pillar of the organization — declaring the matter closed.
