Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, received European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, in Algiers on Monday, in a high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and deepening the strategic dialogue between Algeria and the European Union.
The two officials discussed energy cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector, emphasizing the need to intensify technical exchanges and regular expert meetings. Arkab told dzwatch that energy cooperation remains a cornerstone of the Algeria-EU partnership, playing a pivotal role in supporting economic stability and ensuring European energy supply security.
The Minister highlighted Algeria’s structural reforms in the hydrocarbons sector and its new legal framework, which offers a more attractive and flexible investment environment. He invited European companies to expand their presence in Algeria’s market, underscoring the country’s role as a reliable natural gas supplier.
Commissioner Šuica presented the new ‘Mediterranean Charter,’ launched in October 2025, aimed at renewing the Euro-Mediterranean partnership through a comprehensive approach focused on stability, economic development, and energy transition cooperation.
