On the occasion of Algeria’s National Memory Day, commemorating the 81st anniversary of the May 8, 1945 massacres, the Consulate General of Algeria in Tunisia organized a distinguished historical conference under the supervision of Consul General Mr. Nasr Eddine Laraba.

The conference featured a lecture delivered by researcher and historian Dr. Mohamed Doumir entitled: “From Numidia and Carthage to Algeria and Tunisia: 2000 Years of Neighborhood and Shared Destiny,” moderated by journalist Othmane El Hayani.

The event brought together a distinguished audience led by the Ambassador of Algeria to Tunisia, alongside the Consul General, members of the diplomatic and consular staff, and a prominent group of Tunisian intellectuals, journalists, and researchers, including Brigadier Didi Toufik, Professor Rafaa Tbib, and journalists Salem Boulbaba and Kamal Ben Younes. Algerian students and members of the Algerian community residing in Tunisia also attended the event.
During his presentation, Dr. Mohamed Doumir highlighted the profound historical ties linking Algeria and Tunisia, tracing their shared journey from the civilizations of Numidia and Carthage through the era of the Islamic conquest and the struggle against colonialism, up to the strong bilateral relations enjoyed by the two nations today. He emphasized that the shared history and common destiny of both peoples remain the cornerstone of Algerian-Tunisian relations.
The conference also featured rich discussions and insightful interventions from attendees, particularly Tunisian intellectuals who praised the depth of the lecture and stressed the importance of such initiatives in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, cultural dialogue, and historical awareness between the two neighboring nations.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Mohamed Doumir was honored by the Ambassador of Algeria to Tunisia and the Consul General in recognition of his academic contributions and efforts in preserving national memory and promoting shared historical heritage. The gesture reflected Algeria’s appreciation for national competencies dedicated to safeguarding historical consciousness and national identity.
