Algeria Launches Diaspora Environmental Forum and First National Biodiversity Museum

Algeria’s Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kawthar Kraiko, announced Saturday a landmark series of green initiatives during an international symposium held under the theme ‘Algeria… Ecological Diversity’, marking World Biodiversity Day on May 22.

Speaking exclusively to dzwatch, Minister Kraiko emphasized Algeria’s commitment to tackling environmental and climate challenges through coordinated national and international action, guided directly by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Algeria has officially launched its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2025–2030, aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The minister announced the upcoming creation of the ‘Algerian Competencies Forum for the Environment’ — a consultative mechanism engaging diaspora researchers and experts to support eco-friendly institutional projects.

Algeria will also inaugurate its first National Environmental Museum for Biological Diversity, to be based in Algiers, serving as a repository of the nation’s biological heritage.

Ministers from Mauritania, Chad, Italy, and Portugal praised Algeria’s environmental leadership, with Chad’s minister calling Algeria ‘a model in biodiversity.’
