Algeria is intensifying preparations for its 10th parliamentary term elections on July 2, with over 10,672 candidates registered nationwide and abroad competing for 407 seats in the National People’s Assembly.
The National Independent Electoral Authority told dzwatch that 1,235 candidacies have been accepted while 269 were rejected, with replacement filings accepted until June 6. The electoral campaign runs June 9–28.
Of the 786 filed lists domestically, 647 are backed by 32 political parties, one by a coalition, and 138 are independent lists. Abroad, 66 lists were filed across 15 parties, with 12 seats reserved for the diaspora across Europe, America, Asia, and the Arab world.
A total of 24,503,060 voters — including 869,242 diaspora voters — will elect their representatives under strict measures banning administrative interference and political corruption financing, alongside youth inclusion reforms.
