Algeria and China Sign Historic MOU to Boost National Port Dredging Cooperation

Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, presided over the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding between the Maritime Works Group (GTM) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), establishing a joint Algerian-Chinese mixed company tasked with carrying out dredging operations across Algeria’s national ports.

The signing was carried out by GTM Director General Mustapha Saidani and CHEC Director General Sun Yinguan, in the presence of senior ministry officials and directors of key maritime agencies including ANRIP, Meditram, Aldiph, and LEM.

The agreement, which fulfills directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the April 19 Council of Ministers session, aims to restore standard depths across port quays, basins, transit channels, and harbor entrances — ensuring optimal use of these vital infrastructures and significantly boosting their economic performance.
