Algerian Army Pledges Full Support for Upcoming Legislative Elections, Emphasizes Modernization Drive

General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian National People's Army (ANP), has reaffirmed the military's commitment to ensuring the success of the upcoming legislative elections. Speaking during a ceremony marking the Eid El-Adha holiday, Chanegriha stated that the ANP and security services will diligently work to guarantee the smooth execution of the electoral process.

He emphasized that these elections represent a significant milestone in the nation's political reform agenda, which began with the constitutional revision in November 2020. The ANP's role, he explained, is to implement all necessary security and operational measures to facilitate a serene and secure environment for citizens to exercise their constitutional right and civic duty.

Beyond election security, Chanegriha highlighted the ANP's ongoing adaptation to the evolving international landscape. He stressed the critical importance of modernizing the defense apparatus to meet contemporary challenges and secure Algeria's strategic interests in a dynamic global order. This adaptation, he noted, involves enhancing geostrategic capabilities, consolidating popular and economic resilience, and advancing scientific and technological capacities.

The ANP is actively pursuing the modernization of its defense systems across all dimensions, contributing to the development of a unifying national narrative. This includes advancing the technological capabilities of weapon systems, training qualified personnel to operate them effectively, securing national supply chains, and localizing the defense industry.

Furthermore, the ANP is dedicated to fostering societal resilience against disinformation and cognitive manipulation, countering hostile psychological warfare by dismantling propaganda and exposing manipulation tactics. This effort aims to shape a unifying national narrative that serves the state's vital interests.

Chanegriha also addressed the threats posed by subversive organizations leveraging advanced technology for espionage and subversion, particularly targeting sensitive government IT systems to create crises. He affirmed the ANP's unwavering resolve to counter terrorism, organized crime, and cross-border smuggling, characterizing these as significant threats aimed at undermining Algeria's social cohesion and economic development.

In line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's vision, the ANP remains committed to defending Algeria and contributing to its regional and international standing. The President has consistently underscored the army's peaceful yet resolute stance in safeguarding the nation and fostering unity.

Algeria's internal front, bolstered by its people and army, is focused on building robust state institutions, a strategy observed by many analysts as the most effective defense against destabilization attempts and foreign interference. The ANP, accustomed to navigating complex security challenges along Algeria's vast borders, stands ready to thwart threats from terrorism, organized crime, and arms proliferation.

In the face of regional instability, particularly in neighboring countries, the ANP maintains heightened vigilance along its borders to ensure national security and territorial integrity. Modern warfare, Chanegriha emphasized, requires constant adaptation, necessitating investment in modern equipment and the development of a highly skilled human resource capable of mastering advanced technologies and responding swiftly to evolving situations on the battlefield.
