Algeria’s ANIE Issues Crucial Update on Legislative Election Candidate Replacements

The National Independent Elections Authority (ANIE) has issued an important reminder to candidate lists facing rejection of one or more applicants for the July 2nd legislative elections. ANIE has clarified that upon notification of a rejection decision, affected lists must submit a replacement candidate dossier to ensure timely examination and processing within legal deadlines.

According to a statement released, this procedure accommodates the situation of a rejected candidate if an appeal is filed within the statutory three-day period following the notification of rejection. ANIE explained that should the appellate administrative court rule in favor of the initially rejected candidate, they will be reinstated on the candidate list, rendering the replacement candidacy void. Conversely, if the administrative jurisdiction upholds the rejection decision, the affected candidate will be officially replaced by the substitute applicant, provided their dossier has been validated.

The ANIE emphasized that the submission of replacement candidacies can continue up to 25 days prior to the election date. Consequently, the final deadline for submitting a substitute candidacy has been set for June 6, 2026.
