President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a significant working session focused on strategic projects within Algeria's vital hydrocarbon sector. The deliberations also encompassed major initiatives in the phosphate industry, including the development of a complex for producing phosphate fertilizers, alongside an integrated project aimed at manufacturing ammonia and urea, thus enhancing the production of nitrogenous and phosphatic fertilizers.
Algeria hydrocarbon and phosphate projects
This integrated phosphate project is slated to commence production in the first quarter of 2027. Concurrently, the expansion project for the port of Annaba will be finalized, positioning it to handle the initial phosphate exports during the same period. Further bolstering national infrastructure, the meeting reviewed the financing for the ambitious Algiers-Tamanrasset railway line.
In a decisive move, it was decided that construction on the railway will commence no later than September. The project will be executed through three major phases: the first covering Ouargla-In Salah, the second In Salah-Tamanrasset, and the third focusing on Tamanrasset-In Salah. This expansive rail project promises to significantly enhance logistical capabilities and inter-regional connectivity.
The high-level meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, Minister of State for the General Inspection of State Services and Local Authorities Brahim Merad, Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Finance Abdelkrim Bouzred, Governor of the Bank of Algeria Mohammed Lamine Lebbou, and the Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, Nour Eddine Daoudi.
