Algeria Launches Apostille Workshop to Modernize Administrative and Consular Procedures

Algeria is set to streamline administrative and consular procedures with the launch of a training workshop on issuing 'Apostille' documents. This initiative aims to simplify and modernize processes for citizens both domestically and abroad.

The workshop, overseen by the Secretary of State for National Community Abroad, Soufiane Chiheb, and the Minister-Delegate for Digitalization, Meriem Ben M'rahem, marks a significant step towards the implementation of the Hague Convention. This convention, which abolves the requirement of legalizing foreign public documents, will come into effect in Algeria starting July 9th.

Participants in the training include administrative and technical personnel from various key ministries such as the Interior, Justice, Finance, Higher Education, National Education, Professional Training, and Posts and Telecommunications, as well as representatives from the Bank of Algeria, which will oversee the design of the Apostille certificate.

The training is crucial for ensuring the readiness of all involved sectors and their effective engagement in this new administrative paradigm. Theoretical and practical sessions were presented, including a demonstration of the digital platform developed by the High Commission for Digitalization to manage Apostille requests.

Secretary of State Chiheb emphasized that this project aligns with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' action plan to simplify and modernize administrative and consular procedures, directly addressing the directives of the country's highest authorities to enhance services for Algerian citizens. This initiative was a focal point during a recent conference of consular heads in Algiers.

He further explained that the Apostille system will replace traditional, multi-step legalization processes for public documents intended for use abroad. This will also promote administrative decentralization, allowing citizens to process their requests at the nearest administrative office, making the procedure more accessible and efficient.

Minister-Delegate Ben M'rahem highlighted the role of the digital platform in enhancing inter-ministerial data exchange and facilitating administrative transactions for citizens. The new digital product offers real-time tracking of Apostille requests, significantly easing the document authentication process for international use.
