How Google Helps Students with Homework

Google is enhancing the Circle to Search feature on Android to assist students with their math and physics homework, as announced at the Google I/O 2024 developers conference.

This feature allows users to circle anything on their phone screen to search for it on Google. With the new updates, students will be able to use Circle to Search to get AI assistance in solving verbal math problems in their homework.

According to Google, the purpose of this feature is not to complete homework for the users but to help them tackle different problems.

Through this feature, Google aims to alleviate concerns about integrating AI into the educational process. The company also announced educational AI models called LearnLM, which include features for solving math and physics problems based on these models.

Later this year, the Circle to Search feature will also gain the capability to solve complex mathematical equations involving formulas, graphs, and diagrams.

The Circle to Search feature was first launched in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series earlier this year, and then made available on Google Pixel 8 and some other Android phones. Google says the feature is currently available on over 100 million Android phones and aims to expand its reach to 200 million phones by the end of 2024.
