According to an announcement by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Badari, made via his official Facebook page, 46 Algerian university institutions were included in the latest edition of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings. This achievement positions Algeria ahead of all other nations in both the African and Arab regions, and among the top ten worldwide by quantity of ranked institutions out of 1603 universities assessed globally.

Leading the national contingent is El Oued University, which not only topped the Algerian rankings but also earned international recognition by placing among the world's top 300 universities. Other Algerian institutions also demonstrated strong performance: M'Sila University and Oum El Bouaghi University were ranked in the 401-600 band globally, while Khenchela University secured a spot in the 601-800 category, and Laghouat University was placed between 801-1000 worldwide.

Algerian universities also exhibited qualitative results in their contributions to specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Notably, El Oued University achieved the 34th global rank for SDG 1, focused on "No Poverty." Additionally, Oum El Bouaghi University secured the 88th international position for SDG 15, which addresses "Life on Land."

Minister Badari emphasized that these positive outcomes reflect the substantial efforts undertaken by the sector to bolster the standing of national higher education institutions in various international forums and rankings. This success underscores Algeria's continuous pursuit of academic excellence and its commitment to enhancing the global visibility of Algerian universities. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, established in 2019, evaluate universities' contributions to the UN SDGs through carefully selected indicators across four broad areas: research, outreach, stewardship, and teaching.
