In a significant demonstration of broad political consensus, regional councilors within Italy's Tuscany province have officially announced the formation of a joint parliamentary group dedicated to supporting the legitimate Sahrawi cause. This initiative underscores a unified Italian political stance across various affiliations regarding the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

The solidarity initiative, championed by the "Green-Left Alliance" (AVS) bloc, garnered widespread participation from regional councilors representing Italy's major political parties. Both ruling and opposition parties are involved, including the Democratic Party, Brothers of Italy, the Five Star Movement, and the Casa Riformista bloc, showcasing a diverse commitment to the issue.
During the announcement ceremony, the initiative's organizers emphasized the ongoing plight and displacement faced by the Sahrawi people, awaiting a just resolution that recognizes their struggle and ends what they describe as the illegal Moroccan occupation of their territories. Italian parliamentarians underscored the international community's historical and legal responsibility to uphold international legitimacy and ensure a self-determination referendum, thereby enabling the Sahrawi people to achieve their freedom.
"The establishment of this group represents a moral and political commitment from the Tuscany province to stand by international law and support peoples striving for freedom," stated one of the organizers.
The event was attended by Mr. Abdallah Mohamed Salem, the Polisario Front representative in Tuscany, who conveyed the appreciation and commendation of the Sahrawi authorities for this progressive step. The Polisario Front representative expressed profound gratitude to all political formations in the province, highlighting the critical importance of sustained political and institutional support to accompany the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people until their full rights are achieved.
The joint group comprises a distinguished selection of regional councilors, including Lorenzo Falchi, Massimiliano Ghimenti, and Diletta Vaiani from the Green-Left Alliance; Diego Petrucci from Brothers of Italy; Francesco Casini from Casa Riformista; Irene Galletti and Luca Rossi Romanelli from the Five Star Movement; and Andrea Vannucci, Serena Spinelli, Alessandro Franchi, Matteo Trapani, and Mario Puppa from the Democratic Party.
This new parliamentary group marks another chapter in the historic and institutional solidarity between the Tuscany region and the Sahrawi cause. It aims to bolster international efforts geared towards enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their fundamental right to self-determination and to establish their independent state, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
