Algeria has successfully conducted its fifth national operation to destroy confiscated narcotics and psychotropic substances, a significant step in the nation's ongoing battle against illicit drugs. The operation, overseen by the National Committee for the Destruction of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, took place in the Chlef province within the First Military Region.
Algeria destroys large drug haul
The extensive destruction effort involved the incineration of substantial quantities of seized substances, including 16,575 kilograms and 693 grams of processed cannabis, 1,000 kilograms and 322 grams of hard drugs such as cocaine and heroin, and over 25 million doses of hallucinogenic pills. Additionally, 262 kilograms of psychotropic powder were destroyed.
The total estimated financial value of the confiscated items reached an staggering 50,403,415,400 Algerian Dinars (DZD). The operation was conducted under strict organizational protocols, with significant material and human resources mobilized to ensure its success.
Prior to the final destruction, all seized quantities were meticulously transferred from collection points to the designated facility. Judicial police services, comprising representatives from the judiciary, the National Gendarmerie, and the National Security forces, conducted thorough weighing and inventorying of the substances. Seals were broken, and the drugs were destroyed in accordance with legal techniques, national standards, and with careful consideration for environmental protection and safety regulations.
The Ministry of Defense lauded the operation, emphasizing its role in reaffirming Algeria's robust national strategy to combat drug trafficking. The ministry highlighted the diligent efforts of the Algerian People's National Army units and various security services in confronting this serious societal menace and thwarting attempts to flood the country with dangerous substances.
