RND Hails Strong Electoral Gains After Securing 74 Seats in Algeria’s New Parliament

Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally, Mounder Bouden, has described his party as the “biggest winner” of Algeria’s legislative elections held on July 2, 2026, following a significant increase in its representation in the People’s National Assembly.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday after the Constitutional Court announced the final election results, Bouden welcomed the RND’s advancement from 58 seats in the previous legislature to 74 seats in the newly elected lower house.

“This is a considerable victory for the National Democratic Rally,” Bouden said, noting that the party had recorded clear progress and strengthened its position as one of Algeria’s leading political forces.

Although the RND finished second, Bouden acknowledged that the party had entered the election with even greater ambitions. He said its candidates had worked to achieve strong results while defending the expectations and concerns of Algerian citizens.

The final results placed the National Liberation Front in first position with 91 seats, while the RND secured 74. The Constitutional Court announced the definitive figures after examining appeals submitted against the provisional results issued by the Independent National Authority for Elections.

Bouden also highlighted the changing composition of the RND’s parliamentary group. Six women were elected under the party’s banner, compared with only one woman during the previous legislative term.

Young people will also have a strong presence within the new parliamentary group, with more than 60 percent of its members aged under 45. This renewed representation reflects the RND’s stated commitment to increasing the participation of women and younger generations in political and institutional life.

The result strengthens the party’s ability to contribute effectively to parliamentary debate, examine legislation and represent citizens’ priorities within the National Assembly.

The July 2 elections produced a diversified political landscape while preserving the central role of established national parties. The final results were announced in accordance with the Constitution and electoral law, following the legal review of submitted appeals.

The RND’s gains also demonstrate the continuing vitality of Algeria’s institutional political process. Bouden said the party would use its stronger parliamentary presence to defend citizens’ aspirations and contribute responsibly to the country’s economic and social development.

With 74 lawmakers, the RND enters the new parliamentary term as a major political force and an important partner in supporting national stability, institutional continuity and Algeria’s broader development priorities.
