Interior Minister Reaffirms Algeria’s Full Support for Wildfire Victims
Algerian Interior, Local Government and Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud has reiterated the state’s “unwavering solidarity” with communities hit by the recent forest fires.
During a field visit to Sétif province, the minister inspected ongoing firefighting operations and offered condolences to families who lost loved ones. On the ground in the hard-hit municipality of Beni Mouhli, Sayoud spoke directly with residents, listening to concerns over damage to homes, crops and infrastructure. He pledged to relay every grievance to the relevant authorities and to follow up personally on solutions, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s instructions.
In a further show of support, Sayoud gave the green light to a solidarity convoy carrying food parcels, clothing, blankets and medical supplies to affected households. The initiative, coordinated with local authorities and civil-society groups, aims to reinforce national values of mutual aid and ensure families receive essentials while recovery plans are finalised.
The visit comes as Civil Protection units, security forces and volunteers maintain round-the-clock efforts to stamp out the last remaining hotspots. Officials report that all fires posing a threat to populated areas are now under control, though mop-up teams remain deployed to prevent any flare-ups.
Sayoud thanked firefighters, the People’s National Army and local volunteers for their rapid response, stressing that the state will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with citizens until full normality returns.
