Algeria and Senegal Move to Revitalize Bilateral Cooperation

Algeria and Senegal agreed on Sunday to reactivate bilateral cooperation mechanisms in an effort to give fresh momentum to relations between the two countries and strengthen their political and economic partnership.

According to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides emphasized the importance of preparing for the next session of the Algerian-Senegalese Joint Commission, which is expected to take place before the end of the current year. The meeting is seen as an important step toward reviewing existing areas of cooperation and identifying new opportunities for partnership.

Both countries also agreed on the need to revive the Algerian-Senegalese Business Council. The initiative is expected to encourage stronger ties between business communities, promote investment opportunities, and facilitate greater economic and commercial exchanges between Algeria and Senegal.

The agreement was reached during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang.

The talks reflected the shared willingness of Algiers and Dakar to deepen cooperation and make better use of the existing institutional frameworks connecting the two countries. Particular attention was given to strengthening coordination and creating practical mechanisms capable of translating the strong political relationship into concrete economic and development projects.

The renewed push for cooperation also comes within the broader context of Algeria’s growing engagement with African countries and its efforts to strengthen South-South partnerships across the continent.

By reactivating the Joint Commission and the bilateral Business Council, Algeria and Senegal aim to open a new chapter in their relations, with greater emphasis on economic cooperation, investment, trade, and closer coordination on issues of mutual interest.
