Algeria and Djibouti Move Toward New Cultural Cooperation Agreement

Algeria and Djibouti have agreed to begin preparing a new cultural cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and developing joint programs in the arts and cultural sectors.

The announcement followed a meeting in Algiers on Saturday between Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, and Djibouti’s Minister of Youth and Culture, Fardoussa Moussa Egeh, according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts.

During the meeting, the two ministers stressed the importance of establishing a formal legal framework that would support long-term cooperation and facilitate the implementation of joint cultural and artistic initiatives.

Discussions focused on several priority areas, including theater, cinema, professional training, and cultural education. Algeria also expressed its readiness to provide opportunities for students from Djibouti to benefit from training programs offered by institutions operating under the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts.

The two sides also explored cooperation in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Particular attention was given to rock art, an area in which Algeria has accumulated significant expertise in conservation, documentation, and heritage development.

According to the ministry, Algeria could support Djibouti by sharing technical knowledge and experience related to protecting and promoting this important part of cultural heritage.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange views on broader ways to deepen cultural and artistic cooperation between the two countries.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular coordination and consultation. They agreed to designate a contact point between the two ministries to facilitate follow-up and accelerate the implementation of future projects.

The planned cooperation agreement is expected to provide a stronger foundation for cultural exchanges between Algeria and Djibouti and contribute to closer bilateral relations through education, heritage preservation, cinema, theater, and other artistic fields.
