Algeria Introduces Apostille Certification for Educational Documents

Algeria’s Ministry of National Education has officially announced the adoption of the Apostille certification system, effective from July 9, 2026, marking a significant step toward simplifying the international recognition of educational documents.

In a statement addressed to citizens seeking authentication of educational documents for use abroad, the ministry explained that the new system applies to all public documents issued by its central administration, the provincial Directorates of Education, as well as academic certificates and educational records issued by public institutions operating under the ministry’s supervision.

The introduction of the Apostille system is intended to facilitate the acceptance of Algerian public documents in countries that are parties to the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Under this international framework, documents bearing an Apostille certificate can be recognized abroad without the need for additional legalization procedures through diplomatic or consular authorities.

Starting from July 9, 2026, citizens are required to submit their Apostille requests through the dedicated national online platform at appostille.gov.dz. The ministry emphasized that applicants must complete all required procedures electronically, beginning with obtaining the original document from the issuing institution and continuing through the verification, certification, and final issuance of the Apostille certificate.

The new digital process is expected to streamline administrative procedures, reduce processing times, and make it easier for Algerian students, graduates, and professionals to use their educational documents internationally for purposes such as higher education, employment, and official administrative procedures.

By implementing the Apostille system, Algeria aligns its document authentication process with internationally recognized standards, improving the efficiency of cross-border administrative exchanges and facilitating the global acceptance of Algerian educational credentials.
