Rain, Strong Winds and Heatwave Forecast Across Several Algerian Provinces

Algeria’s National Meteorological Office issued a level-one weather alert on Friday, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and high temperatures across several provinces.

According to the vigilance bulletin, thundery rainfall is expected to begin at around 3:00 p.m. and continue until midnight in the provinces of Naâma and Béchar.

The same forecast indicated that a heatwave would affect Aïn Defla, Chlef, and Relizane throughout Friday, with residents advised to remain cautious during the hottest hours of the day.

Meteorological services also warned of strong winds in El Bayadh, Naâma, Béchar, In Salah, and Adrar. The windy conditions are expected to begin at midday and continue until approximately 6:00 p.m.

The combination of thunderstorms, heat, and strong winds could create difficult conditions in the affected areas, particularly for road users and people working outdoors.

Residents in provinces covered by the rainfall alert are advised to remain alert to sudden downpours, reduced visibility, and possible localized flooding. Strong winds may also raise dust and sand in southern and southwestern regions, potentially disrupting travel.

During the heatwave, people are encouraged to limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, remain hydrated, and take additional precautions for children, older adults, and people with health conditions.

The National Meteorological Office continues to monitor changing weather conditions and may update its warnings depending on the development of the affected weather systems.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow official forecasts and safety instructions, particularly in areas exposed to thunderstorms and strong winds.
