37 Dead and 349 Injured in Road Accidents Across Algeria in 24 Hours
A total of 37 people lost their lives and 349 others were injured in road accidents recorded across various provinces of Algeria over the past 24 hours, according to a statement issued by the General Directorate of Civil Protection.
The report highlighted the scale of emergency activity nationwide, with Civil Protection units carrying out 4,655 interventions during the same period—an average of one operation every 18 seconds. These figures reflect the high level of demand on emergency services and the ongoing risks on the country’s roads.
Regarding traffic accidents specifically, Civil Protection services responded to 201 incidents, which resulted in the reported fatalities and injuries. Authorities emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that road safety remains a major concern requiring increased vigilance and preventive measures.
The heaviest toll was recorded in Boumerdès Province, where a passenger bus traveling from Sétif veered off the road. The accident alone caused the deaths of 27 people and left 42 others injured, making it one of the deadliest incidents within the 24-hour period.
Officials continue to urge drivers to respect traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and remain cautious, especially given the rising number of accidents and their tragic consequences.
