Algeria Commemorates National People’s Army Day, Celebrating Unity and Sacrifice
Algeria will mark, on Tuesday, the National People’s Army (ANP) Day, established by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, in recognition of the military’s vital role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and highlighting the sacred bond between the army and the people.
This occasion reinforces the strength of this enduring relationship, built on solidarity, unity, and mutual support. The “Army–Nation” bond continues to stand as a protective shield against threats and a cornerstone of the country’s stability and cohesion.
To further strengthen this connection, the ANP leadership has adopted a communication policy centered on organizing guided visits and open days for citizens, fostering closer ties between the military institution and society.
This unity was recently demonstrated during wildfire emergencies in several provinces, where the army and citizens worked side by side to combat fires fueled by extreme heat. The ANP mobilized both human and material resources, assisting in firefighting operations, evacuating residents from affected areas, and providing first aid to victims.
Beyond crisis response, the ANP continues its efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime while securing national borders through a proactive and strategic presence across the country. Its role remains essential in protecting every part of Algeria’s territory.
At the same time, the army has made significant strides in modernizing defense capabilities and enhancing border security and cybersecurity. It has also contributed to national economic development through expanding military industries and strategic projects.
The National Army Day commemorates the transformation of the National Liberation Army into the People’s National Army on August 4, 1962, as formalized by Presidential Decree No. 22-217 of June 8, 2022. The day is celebrated nationwide with events honoring the sacrifices of martyrs, veterans of the liberation struggle, and members of the armed forces for their dedication and service to the nation.
