Interior Minister Reviews Key National Priorities, Urges Swift Action on Compensation and Public Services

Algeria’s Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, chaired a coordination meeting on Wednesday evening at the Government Palace, bringing together senior ministry officials to review ongoing priorities, assess program implementation, and address citizens’ concerns.

Compensation for Wildfire Victims
The meeting opened with a detailed report on damage caused by recent forest fires across several provinces, including losses to homes, livestock, and property. The minister stressed the need to complete all compensation processes before the end of August, in line with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, while ensuring all procedures are finalized within the set deadlines.

Harvest Campaign Progress
Regarding the harvest season, Sayoud praised the efforts of local governors, noting the significant progress achieved. He called for maintaining momentum and mobilizing all available resources to complete the harvest under optimal conditions, safeguarding national agricultural production.

Renewal of Transport Fleet
The minister also addressed the program to renew the public transport fleet, which includes the acquisition of 10,000 buses. He instructed officials to accelerate the implementation process to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible.

Road Safety Measures
On road safety, Sayoud emphasized the importance of enforcing new provisions of the traffic law, particularly those related to alcohol and substance testing for drivers. He also called for intensified awareness campaigns to promote responsible driving behavior and reduce traffic accidents.

Back-to-School Preparations
The minister highlighted the importance of early planning for the upcoming school year, urging authorities to take all necessary organizational and preventive measures to ensure a smooth start.

Preventive Measures and Public Health
In anticipation of possible weather fluctuations during late summer and early autumn, Sayoud instructed services to remain fully prepared for emergency response. He also stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness, improving environmental conditions, and preventing waterborne diseases through regular monitoring and field operations.
