Algeria Delivers Military Aid to Niger, Bolstering Regional Security and Cooperation

In a significant move to enhance regional security and reinforce fraternal ties, Algeria has delivered four military helicopters and a consignment of military equipment to Niger. This assistance, provided as free aid, was executed under the direct instructions of President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the National People's Army (ANP), ordered the transfer, which was subsequently announced by the Ministry of National Defense.

The package of equipment included two Mi-24V combat helicopters and two Mi-171 transport and support helicopters, along with essential munitions, spare parts, and material for maintenance and logistical support. The delivery, originating from the In Guezzam Secondary Deployment Base in Algeria's 6th Military Region and destined for Niamey, demonstrates Algeria's concrete commitment to supporting its neighbors in defense and security matters, as well as fostering the exchange of expertise and multifaceted aid.

This initiative unfolds within a broader context of strengthened bilateral relations between Algiers and Niamey. Following a period of diplomatic normalization that commenced in February, cooperation has rapidly expanded across multiple sectors. This includes the relaunch of the vital Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project, with Algeria's national energy company Sonatrach set to oversee the construction of the Nigerien section. Additionally, collaborations are advancing in areas such as infrastructure, finance, telecommunications, hydrocarbons, and public works, with discussions centered on training and skills transfer. Algeria's support to Niger is a testament to its sustained efforts, coordinated with partners, to ensure security and stability in the Sahel region.
