Algerian Women’s National Team Achieves Historic World Cup Qualification and CAN Semi-Finals
The Algerian Women's National Football Team has made history by securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Féminine) and, for the first time ever, qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2027. This landmark achievement was sealed with a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in a hard-fought quarter-final match. The team's qualification for the 2027 World Cup, set to be held in Brazil, represents a monumental stride for Algerian women's football on the international stage.
Following the decisive win, midfielder Amira Ould Braham, who was named Player of the Match, delivered an emotional dedication. She expressed her profound gratitude by dedicating the historic victory to the Algerian people, acknowledging all the players who contributed to the journey, the entire staff, and her late father. Ould Braham emphasized that while the trophy was individual, it truly belonged to “the group and the people,” underscoring a collective national triumph.
National coach Farid Benstiti reflected on the team's extraordinary performance, particularly highlighting their resilience in overcoming initial difficulties against a formidable Ivorian side. He praised the players' intelligence and their ability to “not give up in moments where we absolutely shouldn't have.” Benstiti also extended his sincere thanks to the Algerian Football Federation and its president, Walid Sadi, for their unwavering support.
