On Thursday, the President of the National People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, received the Italian Ambassador to Algeria, Alberto Cutillo.

According to a statement from the Assembly, Boughali praised the “exceptional relations” between Algeria and Rome, noting the “qualitative leap” in their bilateral relations in recent years.

He mentioned that this reflects the “strong political will” embodied by the exchange of visits between the presidents of both countries in 2021 and 2022, and the visit of the Italian Prime Minister to Algeria in 2023.

Boughali pointed out that the relations between the two countries “require raising the level of cooperation and expanding it to include more economic, cultural, academic, and scientific fields to achieve truly strategic relations that serve as a model for distinguished bilateral relations between Mediterranean countries.”

On the parliamentary level, Boughali noted the upward trend in cooperation between the National People’s Assembly and the Italian Chamber of Deputies, expressing hope to strengthen it through the exchange of visits, expertise, and consultations between the friendship groups.

Furthermore, the Assembly President praised Italy’s “Mattei Plan,” which aims to strengthen relations with African countries. He affirmed Algeria’s readiness to cooperate through its comprehensive approach to find solutions to the problems facing the African continent, including the Sahel countries, and to enhance stability and development in the region.

Boughali also outlined Algeria’s foreign policy principles, emphasizing its support for all just causes worldwide, particularly the Palestinian cause. He saluted all the free people around the world who advocate for the Palestinian people’s right to establish their state and reclaim their legitimate rights. Additionally, he reaffirmed Algeria’s stance supporting the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination without external interference or pressure.

In response, Ambassador Alberto Cutillo commended the strong and historic ties between the two countries, considering Algeria a significant partner on political, economic, security, and energy levels. He stressed the need to strengthen these relations in all fields and to intensify dialogue and consultation on issues of mutual interest.

The ambassador also highlighted Algeria’s role in achieving security and stability in Africa and its active contribution to the development of African countries. He expressed Italy’s desire to work together with Algeria in this context and to share its expertise and experiences in the service of Africa.

In the parliamentary field, Ambassador Cutillo noted that the Italian Parliament attaches great importance to cooperation with the parliaments of friendly countries, including Algeria, by enhancing dialogue channels and exchanging visits. He affirmed his readiness to work on developing these relations.

On the international level, the ambassador praised Algeria’s significant role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and presented his country’s positions on several current issues, such as the situation in Palestine and Western Sahara.
