President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has signed a presidential decree officially convening the electoral body for the election of members to the communal and wilaya popular assemblies. These important local elections are now scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 28, 2026, marking a key step in the nation's democratic calendar.

In conjunction with the election date, the presidential decree also mandates an extraordinary revision of the electoral lists. This crucial process is set to begin on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and will conclude on Thursday, September 17, 2026, providing an opportunity to update and ensure the accuracy of voter information nationwide.

The decree was issued in accordance with the provisions of Articles 62 and 123 of Order No. 21-01, dated March 10, 2021, which constitutes the organic law on the electoral system, as amended and supplemented. The presidential decree, specifically No. 26-284 dated August 29, 2026, has been officially published in the Official Gazette, formalizing the preparations for the upcoming local polls.

This extraordinary revision of the electoral lists is essential for updating voter data and enabling eligible citizens to register, as well as correcting or updating existing voter information. By ensuring accurate and current electoral lists, Algeria aims to provide optimal organizational conditions for citizens' participation in selecting their representatives for the communal and wilaya popular assemblies, further strengthening local governance.
