Taranto Mediterranean Games Gold Goes to Algeria U21 Football

Algeria's U21 national football team has secured a gold medal at the 20th Mediterranean Games held in Taranto. The young Algerian squad triumphed over Tunisia with a 2-0 victory in the final match on Sunday, showcasing a dominant performance in the Maghreb derby.

Ahmed Kohili was a pivotal player in the final, opening the scoring for Algeria in the first period. Despite attempts by Tunisia to equalize, Algerian goalkeeper Mohamed El Koubi made several crucial interventions to maintain the lead. Kohili later sealed the victory by converting a penalty in the final minutes, completing his brace and securing the 2-0 scoreline.

This football gold medal marked a significant achievement for the Algerian delegation, contributing to a total of three medals earned on that day, which included one gold and two bronze. The overall medal tally for Algeria at the Games reached 20, consisting of three gold, five silver, and twelve bronze medals, placing the nation 12th in the overall standings.
