Prime Minister Pledges Full Wildfire Compensation by September 15

The Algerian government is intensifying its response to the recent forest fires, with the Prime Minister affirming a commitment to provide full compensation for all damages by September 15. The state is mobilizing its institutions to swiftly and effectively rehabilitate affected areas and support victims, prioritizing rapid and efficient measures. This comprehensive approach underscores the government's dedication to assisting citizens impacted by the natural disaster.

Across the affected regions, residents and civil society representatives in Skikda have broadly praised President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's decisive actions regarding the aftermath of the fires in several eastern and central provinces. Concurrently, public health efforts are ongoing, with a third mobile medical team recently dispatched from Algiers to Jijel province to ensure comprehensive medical coverage for local residents affected by the blazes.

Significant progress is also being made in assessing and addressing the damage on the ground. In Béjaïa province, the process of enumerating and evaluating losses from the fires is reportedly making "notable" advancements, in line with President Tebboune's directives. Field committees are actively assessing damages to homes, furniture, appliances, crops, fruit trees, beehives, and livestock. Furthermore, provincial authorities in Béjaïa are committed to promptly rehabilitating damaged infrastructure and networks, ensuring the continuity of essential public services. Efforts include the successful rehabilitation of electricity and potable water networks in most affected areas, and the commencement of cleaning and rehabilitation operations for damaged educational institutions.
