Taranto Games: Algerian Delegation Reaches 13 Gold Medals

Algeria's delegation recorded its most significant daily medal haul at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, securing seven gold medals on a single day. This exceptional performance propelled the nation's total gold medal count to 13, along with seven silver and nineteen bronze medals, for an overall tally of 39. This achievement has positioned Algeria provisionally in ninth place in the overall standings and is recognized as one of its most successful participations in the Games' history.

Several Algerian athletes contributed to this remarkable success with individual gold medal wins. Said Ammeri clinched gold in the men's 10,000-meter race, setting a personal best time of 28 minutes, 31 seconds, and 26 hundredths. Mehdi Boulose secured a gold medal in the men's singles table tennis competition, triumphing over Egypt's Youssef Ahmed in the final. Additionally, Mohamed Yacine Triki earned gold in the triple jump event with a leap of 16.97 meters.

Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour further distinguished the Algerian team by winning two gold medals in artistic gymnastics, excelling in both the uneven bars and the balance beam apparatuses. The Touiri family also saw success in weightlifting, with Fares Touiri earning gold in the snatch and Aymen Touiri securing gold in the clean and jerk. This collective effort underscores a historic athletic milestone for Algeria at the Taranto Games.
