Algiers Waterfront Redevelopment Progresses Under ‘Plan Bleu’

Algiers is actively pursuing the transformation of its waterfront through a series of projects under the "Plan Bleu" initiative. This comprehensive plan aims to modernize the capital's maritime façade and redevelop public spaces, creating new zones for promenades and leisure. The Wilaya d'Alger recently provided an update on the progress of these operations, following a field visit by the Minister-wali of Algiers, who highlighted the latest advancements in the renovation efforts.

Significant work is underway at various sites, including Stade Ferhani in Bab El Oued, where coastal protection efforts are recovering new land from the sea. These reclaimed areas are designated to host new promenade and leisure zones, extending the existing development of Kitani Place park. Further projects include the 7,986 m² Place des Martyrs, which is being redeveloped to feature a glazed footbridge set to overlook archaeological remains.

The transformation extends eastward to the Port de la Pêcherie, where the second phase of a park is under construction. This area will include a 16,000 m² esplanade, designed to connect Rue Che Guevara directly to the waterfront. A parking facility capable of accommodating 400 vehicles is also planned for this location. Additionally, the "Plan Bleu" envisages an upper footbridge linking Place Port-Saïd to another forthcoming park, which will be established on a platform reclaimed from the port.

These extensive redevelopments aim to increase public access to green spaces and facilities dedicated to leisure and recreation. During the inspection, the Minister-wali of Algiers emphasized the importance of adhering to contractual deadlines and maintaining high-quality execution standards for all projects. The Wilaya highlights these initiatives as essential for reinforcing the capital's attractiveness and enhancing the living conditions for both residents and visitors.
