Batna – The 15th edition of the National School Festival for Historical Research Clubs kicked off on Monday in Batna in a festive atmosphere.

The opening ceremony, held at the “Mohamed Laid Al Khalifa” Cultural Center in Batna, was attended by Governor Mohamed Benmalek and featured a parade of participating delegations from 14 provinces. This parade showcased the rich and diverse Algerian culture through the traditional clothing unique to each region.

In his speech, the Provincial Director of National Education, Othman Hamna, emphasized that this year’s festival, held under the slogan “Write it with the blood of the martyrs,” is a testament to the deep-rooted interest in national memory and the promotion of national and historical values among the nation’s youth.

He added, “It also reinforces the principle of generational continuity to uphold the legacy of the martyrs, which will encourage students to study history passionately, thereby strengthening national unity and loyalty to the martyrs.”

The opening ceremony, which will run until June 27 and attended by veterans from various participating provinces, included musical and patriotic performances, as well as the honoring of several local education sector members.

Participants from middle and high schools, who are members of historical research clubs, will compete for awards for the best audio-visual historical investigations on the glorious liberation revolution. These investigations include live testimonies from veterans or accounts of martyrs or battles.

The festival, organized annually by the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Batna, also plans to include exploratory tours of several archaeological and historical sites for the participants. According to the organizers, the festival aims to introduce students to the heroic feats and illustrious history of the liberation revolution, encourage the use of information and communication technologies, and foster values of brotherhood, cooperation, and fair competition among students from different provinces.
